Marjorie McCullough Watercolors: Portraits and Landscapes

Bio

I started painting when I worked on a sailboat in the Bahamas in the sixties. Beach combing was daily fare and I would paint ships on the unusual bottles I found that had washed up on the shore.

I painted mostly for gifts in oil and acrylics while raising my family.  Now I'm entranced with the effects that can be achieved with watercolor.  I'm pretty much  self-taught in watercolor but I am fortunate to have been helped a great deal along the way by very kind artists. They have much improved my talent. When the last of my three sons left for college a few years ago, my husband converted their large bedroom into an art studio for me. Having a studio really inspired me and encouraged me to paint a great deal.

Five years ago, I started painting watercolor portraits. What a challenge!  It takes me 12 to 20 hours to complete a portrait which I do strickly from  photographs. Who would want to pose for 12 hours?  I do portraits in both color or  sepia colors.

I retired this year and was given the opportunity to teach watercolor to the winter guests with Brett/Robinson in Orange Beach. It gave me great pleasure doing the classes and found it very stimulating.

I have lived on Fish River for 34 years and now that I'm retired I can fully enjoy my beautiful home my husband built for me. When I'm not painting or kayaking on the river, I spend my time working in my garden and entertaining friends.
